Travis Kelce Makes NFL History in Chargers-Chiefs Game

The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC West title with a thrilling win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.

Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright kicked a field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter, knocking it off the left upright and through to give Kansas City a 19-17 victory over the visiting Chargers.

The Chiefs moved into position to kick the game-winning field goal with a classic Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce connection. Mahomes scrambled and evaded pressure long enough to find his tight end for the first down.

Earlier in the game, Kelce made NFL history.

Kelce became the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach the 12,000-yard receiving mark, reaching the milestone in 172 games. The 35-year-old tight end supplanted the mark held by Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez, who accomplished the feat in 210 games.

“Travis Kelce is the fastest TE in NFL History (172 games) to reach 12,000 career receiving yards,” the NFL wrote on X.

Kelce finished the prime-time Week 14 win as the Chiefs’ leading receiver, reeling in five catches for 45 yards. Mahomes spread the ball around in the Chiefs’ 12th win: Five pass catchers recording more than 25 yards.

The Chiefs are 12-1 and AFC West champions. The reigning Super Bowl champions clinched their 10th consecutive playoff berth with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders last Friday.

Kelce and the Chiefs will face the Cleveland Browns in a Week 15 game on Sunday afternoon.
