Patrick Mahomes has previously hinted at a potentially frosty releationship with his teammate Harrison Butker, as pressure rises on the Kansas City Chiefs to cut ties with their starting placekicker.

Butker, who recently graduated, stirred up controversy with a speech at Benedictine College where he claimed women have been fed “diabolical lies” regarding issues like abortion, surrogacy, and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

He declared: “Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder”.

The kicker’s remarks have sparked outrage, leading to a petition with nearly 100,000 signatures calling for the Chiefs to dismiss him for ‘inappropriate conduct’. The backlash has even extended to his teammates, who are facing flak for not condemning his statements.

He explained: “Honestly, I don’t talk to Harrison all year long, man. I just let him do his thing. But I know if I can just cross that 40, man, if I cross that 40, he’s going to put it through there. I know if you saw in the game I got a little pressure, threw it short and knew Harrison was going to knock it through.”

As a kicker, Butker never shares the field with Mahomes, taking over when the quarterback’s attempt to score falls short. The role of a kicker typically involves solo training sessions or group drills, including a long-snapper and punter/holder.

Renowned as one of the NFL’s top kickers, Butker’s recent comments could put his future with the team at risk. Speaking at an event, the 28-year-old invoked several traditional female stereotypes, implying that their ultimate fulfilment lies in marriage and motherhood.
